Never take it for granted

Never take it for grantedTo all of you who think that can live from fresh air, sun, water and love
Here, it’s a different world. What you would normally take for granted back home, shouldn’t be taken for granted here.
Basic stuff such as:
·         If the toilet doesn’t flush, it has to be broken.
·         If the current goes out for a bit, someone in this town will fix it.
·         The people you love will always love you
Who would think one day that the toilet wasn’t broken? Who would have tough that there was simply no more running water in town? And who would think that this situation could last up to 3 days? Not me. Sure, I had been told so. But as you know, no word can really express what you experienced.
Here, in Somoto, one day out of two, we run out of water. Most of the days, we do not have running water during day time, only at night and early morning. I asked why (still using good advices). Someone told me about the pump. Something happens when it rains a lot so they close de valve to stop the dirty water to come in. And you know, it’s rainy season, so it rains a lot. Others said that the people who use too much water don’t get to have some all of the time; punishment I guess. Other people tend to think that Dios Save. I don’t know why there is no water when I am sweating like a pig, coming back from hard day of work. The only thing that I know is that, we, North American people, take things such as water and electricity for granted.
Who would think that they would actually love to wash the dishes because it stinks so much? Impossible, there is no water! Anyways, we prefer to save some for drinking. Who would think of washing themselves outside, in the garden, with a little recipient of water? Only a few of you would think that it is normal to wonder if you will have water tonight when you will be back from work, but for me, it’s daily basis.
You know, it’s not as bad as it looks like. Hot water shower was never my favourite anyways. We do have a reserve of water outside... it’s not really big you know, but it helps us out when the tap water is gone. The only problem is... when we were not home to fill the tanks the only couple of hours that the water came back. So we pasted another couple of hours wondering if we would be able to take a shower today, or tomorrow?
Just so you have it straight, it’s the same thing with electricity. Nearly everyday La luz se fue. There is not much to do. The only reason why I am saying that is to let you know that I am not taking your friendship or love for granted. It’s nothing personal when you think I hung up on you. Rather the power is off, again! Rather the water came back for God knows how long... so I decided to wash dishes, myself and fill in the tanks.  It’s not that I didn’t want to answer your facebook message or that I do not value the time that we talk on skype, it’s only that there was something more basic to take care of.
I know that I should not take your love or friendship for granted, sometimes I feel like I did and I am sorry.
Neither should love, water and the power be taken for granted.
